Characters in THE DEADLIEST LIE

The Jews dressed modestly and in layers as you might expect in a desert climate, either with a cloak, cape, or in Miriam's case, a himation, a long, light woolen rectangle that men and women wrapped around their body. In Chapter 20 of THE DEADLIEST LIE, Miriam wears it over her head and drawn across her face to avoid being recognized (NYPL Digital Gallery).
