Is there a new Great Library of Alexandria?
No, but there’s a great New Library.
Opened in 2002 and built to hold eight million books, the New Library of Alexandria, located near the site of the ancient library, is a cultural center as well as the home to museums, art galleries, and a planetarium as well as ancient and modern texts. The design of this eleven-story circular, tilting building symbolizes the cyclical nature of knowledge and its fluidity over time.
